LOTUS POND, Lehman College of Nursing, New York, NY | Nine fired and glazed porcelain and bronze sculptures. Gift of the artist in honor of Carole Weinstein.

‘Lotus Pond’ is a sculptural wall piece created after a trip to China upon experiencing the magnificent cherry blossoms. The petals are hand-formed individually out of porcelain and fired with a white glaze that turns pink when applied thin over an edge. The bronze seedpod centers were cast using the lost wax technique. Because the lotus flower grows from a muddy bottom through murky waters to become a majestic blossom, it has been regarded as an important metaphor for the resilience of human experience by many cultures throughout time. Created 2006. Installed 2023.
